New server means a new #introduction
Hi, I am a design executive in Europe who started as a backend developer in Missouri.
My life has taken many turns, but I’ve always benefited from the advantage of being a white cishet male who is stereotyped as credible. Hopefully, I leave this planet more equitable than I found it.
I strive to apply critical analysis to everything yet also find solidarity with everyone.
While I value “strong opinions, weakly held”, I do indulge in strongly-held opinions on a few issues. I’ll thread them here so you can make an informed decision on whether to follow or block me:
@paulrobertlloyd have you written up anything about your workflow for https://paulrobertlloyd.com/photos/ ?
@tiotasram @futurebird @dalias bring back fluidics
If that's got you excited, me too.
And end-of-year fundraising deadlines are upon us! A strong showing in the next two days helps me get out to farms and sets a strong foundation for the general election. Anything you can give helps!
Airport announcement that sounds like a glimpse of the future: “All passengers are requested to present their ID or passport to the turnstile and to our human crew.”
@kissane Hello from north Thailand, where we just spent 3 days with a local guide who was incredibly generous and patient with my armchair-anthropologist curiosity. His tribe is of Myanmar origin, and I understood his stories much more thanks to your Meta journalism.
I know this is pretty far from why you wrote those pieces, but I’m grateful nonetheless. 🙏
@codekoan @rubinjoni @marcan@treehouse.systems wait, are you talking about AI or politicians or business leaders?
@edsu @roelgroeneveld @simon and also @christophersu
@mosseri I am excited to maintain my own instance while staying connected to my less-nerdy friends via Threads. Besides post federation, discovery will be important; do you have any sort of profile forwarding on the roadmap?
Second, threads posted by me and a few members of the Threads team will be available on other fediverse platforms like Mastodon starting this week. This test is a small but meaningful step towards making Threads interoperable with other apps using ActivityPub – we’re committed to doing this so that people can find community and engage with the content most relevant to them, no matter what app they use.
@drfancypantsesq @annmlipton what’s comforting is to know that they are fictional. I think some of the appeal is in the idea that maybe the Murdochs and Sacklees and Kochs and Trumps are fictional, too.
@danielfgom@vivaldi.net your assertion seems to be a pretty blunt “Israeli state does no wrong.” I guess you will tell me the stories I have heard about hostage swaps involvding the release of children that were being imprisoned without habeus corpus are complete fabrications, as well.
@danielfgom@vivaldi.net so the Guardian and Haaretz are lying to me? To what end? What are the sources you find trustworthy?
@danielfgom@vivaldi.net what is the moral calculus of this vast difference? How many children living on the same land as the maniacal, homicidal murders can be justifiably killed as a result of their evildoing?
@danielfgom@vivaldi.net …and I believe both “sides” have a troubling amount of these men. You might find me criticizing the Israeli ones more, here, because they have substantially more power.
@danielfgom@vivaldi.net I have no side here; all of the men with power who are putting civilians in danger or actively choosing to harm them ought to be sent to the mythic judge of their choice.
