I've come to understand what's happening in frontend's decade-long failure to deliver decent user experiences as a sort of epistemic closure. I'm calling it "frameworkism", and the epicenter is now React.
Here's a lot of words on why we should all reject it, and what the post-React world should look like:
@slightlyoff I sit here, read the text&comments, look at our ARR business with 100+ customers and our 2 FE devs + joker (me), look at how happy our customers are, how few FE bugs we have, and am mildly confused.
I even agree with the sentiment that I‘d probably not start a new react project now, and my personal honeymoon with teact is also behind me, but there are corners of the tech world where you don’t get good alternatives. That said, we still get tremendous mileage of our FE codebase, we do not „pray“ when we do our multiple deployments a day and first time to paint is a nice metric, but not the only one.
